The same home page on a 390 pixel wide phone, with the headline, both buttons and the rating badge above the fold.
Detail A The same page on a phone, where most visitors arrive.

Website for a lawn care, small engine and trucking business in Chester, Virginia.

A fast, plain-spoken site for an owner-run local business. Prices are published up front, a free estimate takes one short form, and behind it sit staff and customer accounts that turn an estimate into a scheduled job.

RoboCup

A four-layer, 120 mm round controller board, drawn in KiCad.

KiCad A4 drawing sheet with a circular blue copper pour full of white through-hole pads.
B.Cu Bottom copper, plotted on an A4 sheet.

The controller board for a small autonomous soccer robot: a Teensy 4.1, a camera, a radio and a ring of 24 infrared receivers on one round, four-layer board. Toggle the copper layers below; the drawing is the real KiCad geometry.

Fly brain maze

Real fruit fly brains, wired from the FlyWire connectome, steering flies through a 3D maze.

The brain panel: the selected fly's brain as a point cloud of neurons in their real positions on a dark background, chips for the four flies, and a turning meter.
Detail A One fly’s brain. Each dot is a neuron in its real place, lit when it fires.
Four top-down plots of the same maze with a fly's walking path in blue. In the first, the fly that can smell walks from the start to the food star in 22 seconds. In the other three, flies without smell cover the start corridors in dense scribbles and never reach the food.
Detail B Left: the fly that can smell, at the food in 22 s. The other three can’t smell and never get there.

Each fly runs a spiking model of the whole adult fruit fly brain, 138,639 neurons and 15 million connections, wired exactly as mapped by FlyWire. It smells food at its two antennae, the activity spreads through the real wiring, and its steering is read from the neurons that turn walking flies. Nothing about the maze is programmed into the brain.

unvibe

An open-source checker for websites that look templated.

A command-line tool, a short guide and a set of React motion components, built from what I changed to make this site stop looking like a template. Run it on any project and it points at the stock copy, stock colour and stock motion, with the line and a fix.

Portfolio

Mostly people, close and at eye level, on the street, plus a day at a pro bike race. Shot on a Canon 5D Mark III and a Sony a7 III, and on a phone when travelling. Then the brand work for Young Man’s Services. Art training behind all of it: a 5 on AP Art in Drawing and 2-D Design.

Off the bench

A rider in a white team kit sprinting past on a black and blue bike, the background streaked by a panning shot.
A pro race I photographed in Montreal.

    Bike racing

Team lead on the Major Taylor developmental team. I once went down hard in a breakaway at the Tour of Somerville; the first thing I remember is the taste of salt.

  2. 02

    Ride to Provide

A nonprofit I started to get bikes to people who need transport, built around a ride from New Jersey to Montreal.

  3. 03

    Four languages

English and Turkish fluently, Arabic and Spanish well enough for a conversation.

  4. 04

    Teaching

English and Arabic to refugee kids, robotics to younger students, 3D printing at weekly club workshops.
